A beginning player should not have to make a large investment in his or her first bow. At the same time, it is unrealistic to expect an inexperienced player to excel if he or she is forced to play with poorly balanced, weak, or warped bow. K.Holtz FG bows require no compromise — they are designed with beginning players’ specific needs and budgets in mind. These strong, well-balanced, attractive bows produce a smooth, clear sound without a lot of physical effort from the player. And with K.Holtz FG bows, players can invest their efforts in improving their playing without having to invest a lot of money in their bows
Holtz Fiberglass Bows
As a teacher and professional violinist, I used to be somewhat suspicious of bows not made of real wood! However, now that I have been teaching for over half my life . . . . and our string shop is full of broken wooden bows, I can cleary see that Holtz bows are a great choice for students, especially the young ones. Very inexpensive and available in every size, this light-weight durable bow will not warp if accidently left wound up in its case, and won't break if dropped. Tips can still be damaged if abused and screws will still strip - just like with any bow. This bow is also an excellent choice for more advanced students who require a spare bow in addition to their primary bow. Once a student reaches the stage of my learning challenging bow strokes such as spicatto, then it is time to consider a bow with more reponse. I myself keep a high-end carbon fiber bow in my violin case as a spare. In fact it was my primary bow for at least 10 years.
